CHARLESTON, S.C. - Cal State Fullerton had a rough day Saturday at the College of Charleston Classic, dropping both of their matches and finishing the tournament with a 1-2 record. She also had a team-high five service aces and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Match One: Wake Forest 3, Cal State Fullerton 2 (Box Score PDF)

Niki Withers notched a team-high 16 kills and was one of four players to reach double-figures in kills but it was not enough as the Titans fell to Wake Forest 3-2 (25-17, 21-25, 26-24, 16-25, 11-15) at TD Arena.

Freshman Stephanie Buss set new career highs with 15 kills and a .609 hitting percentage while Crenshaw added 12 kills and five digs. Megan Kurz pitched in with 10 kills and four digs and Mackenzie Olsen handed out season-high 49 assists for the Titans.

The Titans took a 2-1 lead after taking the third set 26-24 but could not finish off the Demon Deacons, who led by as much as 12 points in the fourth set. In the fifth, the Titans held a 9-5 lead but the Demon Deacons scored five straight points to take the lead. A service error tied the score at 10 but the Titans could not contain their opponent's offense as the Demon Deacons finished off the fifth on a 10-2 run after scoring five of the last six points. Jazmen Russell led Wake Forest with 23 kills, the most by an opponent against the Titans this season.

Match Two: College of Charleston 3, Cal State Fullerton 0 (Box Score PDF)

The Titans got a solid effort out of Crenshaw but fell to the host Cougars 3-0 (20-25, 24-26, 17-25). College of Charleston held Fullerton to a season-low .047 hitting percentage and capitalized on 28 attack errors by the Titans.

Crenshaw finished the match with 16 kills and a .536 hitting percentage to lead the Titans while Withers added 10 and five digs. But the rest of the team combined for eight kills and 16 errors, which proved too much to overcome.

Olsen dished out 26 assists while McKenna Painton paced the defense with 14 digs. Buss led the team with four blocks but managed just three kills and four errors.

In the first set, the Titans overcame an early five-point deficit to tie the game at 14 apiece. The teams would trade points but the Cougars never relinquished the lead, closing out the set on an 11-6 run. Overall, the match featured 17 ties and six lead changes.

The Titans best chance to take a game from the hosts came in the second set when they jumped out to a 5-1 lead. They would nurse that lead for the majority of the set and led 20-14 at one point, but the Cougars pounced on a number of Titans mistakes as Fullerton committed six attacking errors down the stretch, allowing the Cougars to claim the set and take a commanding 2-0 that they would not relinquish.

Notes: Buss' .609 hitting percentage against Wake Forest is the highest by a Titans player with at least 15 kills in a match this season… Fullerton played their first five set match of the season in their loss to Wake Forest. It was also the second straight year the Titans and Demon Deacons have played a five-set match. The Titans won last year's meeting 3-2 at the Fullerton Classic in Titan Gym… The Titans are now 1-2 in three-set matches and are 1-1 all-time against College of Charleston… Withers recorded her 10th kill late in the third set against the Cougars, extending her double-digit kill streak to 10 matches.
