LONG BEACH, Calif.  – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team posted a series of wins on Friday in the first day of the Beach Tennis Tournament at Long Beach State led by juniors Alexis Valenzuela, Camille De Leon and Emilia Borkowski.

Fullerton totaled a 5-2 record on Friday in singles action as De Leon, Valenzuela, Borkowski, freshman Sarah Nuno, and sophomore Danielle Pham each recorded victories.

In Flight A, De Leon defeated Wisconsin's Sydney Ryder, 6-0, 6-4, while Valenzuela advanced past Francis Dean of Montana, 6-2, 6-3.

In Flight B, in her first collegiate match, Nuno defeated Montana's Lidia Dukic, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Borkowski earned a win in Flight C with a 6-3, 6-3, win over Lana Rinaldi of Grand Canyon. Pham also advanced to the winner's bracket past Portland State's Taylor Rees, 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles play, not one, but two Titan teams advanced to the semifinals. De Leon and Valenzuela defeated Montana's Dean and Catherine Orfanos, 8-1, in the first round, and in the quarterfinals beat the Long Beach State pairing of Julie Gerard and 2014 Big West Player of the Year Maeva Razakasoa, 8-4.

Also in Flight A, the Fullerton doubles team of Masako Makiba and Nuno lost its first match before picking up an 8-2 win over Cam Kincaid and Hannah Sulz from Montana.

The team of Borkowski and Pham defeated Alana Chaplin and Ashley Knecht of Portland State, 8-1, and advanced to the semifinals with an 8-1 win over Leslie Chang and Elisaveta Nosenko of CSUN.
