DAVIS, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's struggle in Big West Conference play continued on Saturday as the Titans suffered a 4-3 loss to UC Davis at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
The match was played a day later than previously scheduled due to rain in the Davis area on Friday.
The Titans (6-13, 0-6 Big West) suffered their sixth 4-3 loss of the year as the Aggies (11-6, 3-2 Big West) swept the doubles point before the squads split singles play.
Cal State Fullerton freshman Alexis Valenzuela extended her winning streak to 13 matches and improved her dual mark to 14-3 with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Megan Heneghan at the top of the lineup. The native of West Covina, Calif., now has more wins than any Titan singles player dating back to 2001 (the last year stats are available).
Senior Morgan McIntosh recorded her 10th victory of the season, leading 4-3 in the second set when UC Davis' Melissa Kobayakawa retired.
Junior Megan Sandford won her first set at No. 5 singles by the score of 6-1 before Nicole Koehly retired to give Sandford the victory.
Currently three Titans have winning records in dual matches this year: Valenzuela (14-3), McIntosh (10-9) and Camille De Leon (10-9).
The Titans return to action at 1 p.m., Friday at UC Riverside. Fullerton will end the regular season on Monday, April 14 hosting Cal Poly at the Titan Tennis Courts. The match against the Mustangs was originally scheduled on March 1, but was postponed due to rain.
The Big West Championships are set to begin on Thursday, April 24 in Indian Wells, Calif.
