Titans Return for Five-Match Homestand

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team returns to the Titan Tennis Courts on Monday to begin a five-match homestand that starts with Colorado State.

The Rams visit Fullerton at 1:30 p.m., Monday followed by Amherst at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday and New Mexico State at 1:30 p.m., Friday.

The Titans are currently on a three-match losing streak, but freshman Alexis Valenzuela leads the pack with a singles dual record of 10-3.

Fullerton News & Notes

Cal State Fullerton (3-10, 0-4 Big West) enters the week on a three-match losing streak, but the Titans have the luxury of playing their next five contests at the Titan Tennis Courts.

Fullerton has compiled four losses this season - to Loyola Marymount (Feb. 9), UC Irvine (Feb. 13), UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 23) and Georgetown (Mar. 8) – due to the loss of the doubles point which proved to be the difference as the Titans hold a 15-23 record (.395) in doubles dual play this year.

In singles dual action, Fullerton sports a record of 33-45 (.423), although the top three spots hold a wining record of 23-16 (.590), while the bottom three positions in the lineup have struggled at 10-29 (.256).

The Titans have a pair of freshman in the singles lineup as Alexis Valenzuela holds a dual record of 10-3. The native of West Covina, Calif., is also on a team-best nine-match win streak, and has played her last seven matches at No. 1 in the lineup.

 

Fellow rookie Camille De Leon boasts an 8-5 record, playing at No. 3 in the lineup, although the Troy High School graduate has lost her last three.

 In doubles play, the team of Valenzuela and junior Kalika Slevcove leads Fullerton with a record of 8-5 competing at No. 2.

 

Opponents

Colorado State (1-3, 0-0 Mountain West) enters Monday's match having last its last two contests by scores of 7-0, respectively. The Rams only win this season was a 6-1 victory over Colorado-Mesa on Feb. 9.

Dating back to 2001, Colorado State holds a 5-2 advantage in the all-time series against Fullerton, although the Titans have been victorious in the last two meetings in 2012 (4-3) and 2013 (5-2).

Cal State Fullerton and Amherst have played one another eight times dating back to 2001 with all the matches taking place in Fullerton, Calif. The Titans hold a 6-2 advantage in the all-time series, but have dropped the last three meetings in 2008 (6-1), 2009 (6-2) and 2012 (4-3).

Amherst (1-0) will play Pomona-Pitzer on Monday before traveling to Cal State Fullerton.

Wyoming (4-4, 0-0 Mountain West) travels to Southern California on a two-match losing streak. The Cowgirls will play Long Beach State on Wednesday before traveling to Cal State Fullerton. Wyoming will also play UC Irvine on its road trip.

 

The Cowgirls are led by Silviya Zhelyazkova dual record of 5-1. Dating back to 2002, Fullerton is winless against Wyoming in three meetings.
