Fullerton News & Notes

Cal State Fullerton (2-7, 0-4 Big West) enters the week still searching for its first Big West Conference victory. The Titans have lost six of their last seven matches, but three of those contests were decided by one point.

In Fullerton's last three losses to Loyola Marymount (Feb. 9), UC Irvine (Feb. 13) and UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 23), the loss of the doubles point proved to be the difference as Fullerton holds a 12-15 record (.444) in doubles dual play this year.

In singles dual action, Fullerton sports a record of 22-32 (.407), although the top three spots hold a wining record of 16-11 (.593), while the bottom three positions in the lineup have struggled at 6-21 (.222).

Last Saturday, Cal State Fullerton recorded a 7-0 victory over Southern Utah. It was the first sweep for the program since March 10, 2011 when the Titans also swept the Thunderbirds at home.

The Titans have a pair of freshman in the singles lineup as rookie Camille De Leon leads her teammates with a record of 7-2 competing in the No. 3 position. Last week, she finished the weekend 4-0 winning both of her singles matches as well as both of her doubles contests.

Fellow freshman Alexis Valenzuela holds a dual record of 6-3. The native of West Covina, Calif., is also on a team-best five-match win streak, and has played her last three matches at No. 1 in the lineup.

Junior Jessica Pepa (Chula Vista, Calif.) also won both of her singles matches last week and improved her singles record to 4-5 on the year.

In doubles play, the team of Valenzuela and junior Kalika Slevcove leads Fullerton with a record of 6-3 competing at No. 2.

Opponents

UC San Diego (5-4), a Division II program ranked 17th in the nation, enters Wednesday's match on a two-match win streak after recording victories over Whittier (9-0) and Fresno Pacific (7-2). Fullerton will be the second Division I opponent for the Tritons this year as UCSD lost to UC Davis, 8-1, on Feb. 2.

Dating back to 2004, Cal State Fullerton holds a 6-0 advantage over UC San Diego in the all-time series.

Cal Poly (2-4, 0-1 Big West) has lost its last two matches to San Jose State (4-3) and Santa Clara (4-3). The Mustangs have recorded wins over UC Santa Cruz (7-0) and Loyola Marymount (5-2).

Dating back to 2001, Cal Poly holds a 12-0 advantage in the all-time series.
