Fullerton News & Notes

Cal State Fullerton opened the season last Saturday, suffering a 6-1 loss at No. 46 San Diego State.

Freshman Camille De Leon was the only Titan to record a win in singles action, defeating Kennedy Davis, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 in the lineup.

The Titans also dropped the doubles point, although Kalika Slevcove and Alexis Valenzuela earned a win over Dora Somoracz and Hailey Johnson, 6-2, at No. 2.

Cal State Fullerton returned to the court for the 2014 season following an 11-14 record in 2013, which marked the most victories for Fullerton since 2004. Following the season, Bill Reynolds retired after 24 years of service as the Titans' head coach, and CSF welcomed Dianne Matias from UC Irvine to take over the Fullerton tennis program.

Fullerton returns eight student-athletes from last year's squad, including regular members of the lineup, Slevcove, Morgan McIntosh and Megan Sandford. Newcomers include De Leon and Valenzuela, who each experienced early success in the fall.

Fullerton lost three members of last year's lineup as eligibility expired for Tiffany Mai, Malorie de la Cruz and Monica Rodriguez. Mai received Big West second team honors following her senior season, while the doubles team of McIntosh and Slevcove also earned Big West second team accolades in doubles play.
