SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton (6-3) split their doubleheader on Saturday falling to BYU, 11-3 in six innings, before beating Southern Utah 7-4 to close out their trip to San Diego. They went an even 2-2 at the Campbell/Cartier Classic.

The Titans battled in their first game of the day as they took on the BYU Cougars once again. BYU would jump out to the early lead with a first inning run, but Fullerton responded with one of their own in the bottom half thanks to a Zoe Richard (3-for-3) RBI single.

Fullerton would claim the lead in the bottom of the second as Julia Valenzuela (1-for-2, R, 2RBI) launched her first home run of the season to the bleachers in left. The two-run shot gave CSF a 3-1 lead.

Trish Parks settled in well after the first inning run throwing four innings, allowing just the one earned run on four hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Coach Kelly Ford would go to the bullpen to start the fifth and bring in sophomore ace, Dani Martinez. However, the Cougars were unfazed pushing two runs across on a two-RBI double against the right-hander.

The struggles would carry into the sixth for Martinez as two more Cougars reached base before Sophie Frost replaced her. BYU's offense was rolling at that point though pushing eight runs across and eventually taking the game 11-3 in six innings.

Looking to bounce back in game two, the Titans got the offense going right off the bat plating three runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by a two-run shot from Irie Siofele (2-for-3, HR, 3RBI).

Southern Utah would battle back to tie it up after plating a run in the second and two more in the third.

However, the Titans' offense would answer with a four spot in the bottom half of the third thanks to RBI singles from Richard and Siofele, and a couple of defensive mishaps from the Thunderbirds.

Southern Utah would plate another run in the fourth, but Frost (Win, 5IP, 7H, 4R, 5K) and Martinez (Save, 2IP, 2H) would keep it on lock to pick up the 7-4 victory.

Cal State Fullerton is back in action next weekend for the Mary Nutter Classic. The Titans will play four games in two days, all against Power 5 schools.
