SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton split their Friday games to open up the Campbell/Cartier Classic with a 8-2 win over BYU before falling 3-2 to SDSU in extras. With a win and a loss, Fullerton moves to 5-2 on the season.

In game one, BYU got the scoring started early pushing a run across in the bottom of the first. The Titans were held in check in the first two innings, but broke through in the third with a four-spot.

Sam Kennedy (1-for-2, R, RBI) got the inning started with a triple down the right field line before coming in to score on a pinch hit Ari Burns single. Zoe Richard (2-for-4, 2RBI) would come up later in the inning with the bases loaded and rip a two-RBI single to give Fullerton the lead. Irie Siofele (1-for-3, R, RBI) tacked on another run with an RBI single of her own.

The Cougars would get a run back in the bottom half on an RBI double, but the Titans responded with two more runs in the fourth and fifth to blow the game open, 8-2.

BYU would plate one more in the bottom of the sixth, but Dani Martinez (CG, 8H, 3R, 3BB, 2K) would shut it down for the complete game. The sophomore moves to a perfect 4-0 on the season.

In game two, it was a pitchers' dual between Sophie Frost and San Diego State's Maggie Balint as neither team put a run on the board until the fifth.

Frost (6.1IP, 7H, R, BB, 6K) started the game by retiring the first 10 Aztec hitters she faced before surrendering a hit. She would allow runners in scoring position in both the fourth and fifth innings, but worked out of the jam both times.

The Titans broke the scoreless game in the top of the fifth on a Megan Delgadillo (1-for-4, RBI) single into left to plate Siofele.

SDSU would end Frost's shutout with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game up at one run a piece.

Neither team could put a run on the board in the seventh, despite San Diego State threatening with a runner on second and only one out. Trish Parks (1-1) would come out of the bullpen and get back-to-back groundouts to force extra innings.

With the international tie breaker rule in play, Fullerton would plate the lead run on an Alexa Neil (2-for-4, RBI) single.

However, SDSU would respond with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to walk it off and hand the Titans a 3-2 loss.

Cal State Fullerton will close out their weekend at the Campbell/Cartier Classic tomorrow with a doubleheader. First game will be a rematch with BYU at 11:30 a.m. followed by Southern Utah at 2:00 p.m.
