FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton (4-1) ended opening weekend with a 5-0 victory over Loyola Marymount (2-3) on Sunday night. It marks the first shutout of the 2020 season for the Titans and the first complete game shutout by a Fullerton pitcher since March 30 of last season.

The story of tonight was all Dani Martinez, who is now 3-0 with a save on the year. The 2019 Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year allowed a few baserunners early, but settled in and cruised through the second half of the game. After allowing a leadoff walk in the fourth, the right-hander would retire the final 12 Lion hitters en route to her first complete game shutout of the season. She surrendered just two hits and two walks while striking out six.

Neither offense could get going early as only one runner got into scoring position until the third inning when the Titans would break the scoreless tie. With the bases loaded, Kelsie Whitmore would come to the dish and hit a missile at the shortstop and as it skipped into center, the first run of the ballgame would come in.

Fullerton would plate two more in the fourth on defensive miscues from LMU and then add on one more in both the fifth and sixth.

Megan Delgadillo got back to business after a rough night against Pacific, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two more stolen bases. Irie Siofele went 1-for-1 with a walk and joined Whitmore with the only other RBI for the Titans on the night.

Taylor Tropp went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in her first collegiate start while Daisy Munoz went 1-for-1 with a walk coming off the bench.

Cal State Fullerton is back in action next weekend for the Campbell/Cartier Classic hosted by San Diego State. They will play four games in two days starting with BYU on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
