FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton (18-10) took down College of Charleston, 7-1, in their final game of the Easton Invitational. The Titans finish the weekend going 3-1 in their four games.
Sophie Frost set the tone early on opening the game with four scoreless frames including a streak where she struck out four straight Cougar hitters.
The Titans got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Daisy Munoz got the rally started with a double to dead center followed by an RBI single from Irie Siofele, who ended up on third on the play. The next batter, Sam Kennedy, would single to right field to bring in Siofele.
After a shutdown top of the third from Frost, Fullerton would plate four more in the fourth. After an Ari Williams single led the inning off, Deshea Hill would double down the right field line to plate Williams.
Munoz would record her second knock of the day with a single up the middle. Siofele would follow that up with a two-RBI double into the left-center gap making it a 5-0 game. Fullerton would tack on one more in the inning before being set down.
Charleston would finally get to Frost in the fifth as three straight singles to start the inning would end the junior's shutout bid. She would respond with back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to limit the damage and escape the jam.
Just for good measure, the Titans would plate one more run in the bottom half of the fifth after Paola Villegas came in to score on an RBI single from Kiana Parrish. Villegas got aboard with her first career hit, a triple into right-center, before scoring Fullerton's seventh run of the ballgame.
With the victory, Fullerton is now a perfect 12-0 in games that they score first.
