LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton (27-20, 5-7) softball team fell in a doubleheader to Big West rival Long Beach State (19-22, 6-4), 5-1 and 7-6, to complete the three-game sweep for the Beach at 49er Softball Complex on Wednesday.

Cal State Fullerton will continue conference play and host Cal Poly for a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., followed by a single-game matchup on Sunday at 11 a.m. All three games of the series will be featured on ESPN3 at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif.

GAME TWO: Long Beach State 7, Cal State Fullerton 6

The 49ers erased a three-run deficit and capitalized on a late error to walk-off Fullerton to complete the sweep and hand the Titans their fourth consecutive loss.

LBSU's Leilani Tupua-Tautalatasi began the third rally of the game for the 49ers with a sharp double to right field. Haley Tobler dropped a sacrifice bunt to move Tupua-Tautalatasi over to third. Lauren Lombardi, who had already stung the Titans on a pair of grand slams in the series, was intentionally walked while Darian Tautalafua also followed with a base on balls to load the bases. LBSU's Julia Lombardi proceeded with a ground ball to Fullerton second baseman Samantha Galarza, who bobbled the ball which trickled into shallow right field to bring across the winning run to steal the victory.

Four different 49ers combined efforts in the circle, but it was Christina Clermont (14-6) who remarkably collected all three wins in the series after tossing the final inning of work, yielding one run on four hits to be the final pitcher of record.

The Titans offense was quick to jump ahead 2-0 in the opening frame with an RBI ground out by Melissa Sechrest and an RBI single from Bryanna Ybarra. LBSU responded with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame from Haley Tobler to notch the game at two apiece.

After Fullerton recaptured the lead with an RBI single from Courtney Rodriguez, the Titans extended their advantage to 5-2 from the benefit of several wild pitches and illegal pitches from LBSU reliever Selene Polamalu. A three-run fifth by the 49ers tied the game at 5-5 with a two-run single by Darian Tautalafua and RBI double from Julia Lombardi.

The Fullerton offense wasn't finished in the back-and-forth finale of the series as singles from Sechrest, Galarza and a walk by Ybarra loaded the bases with one out. Pinch hitter and Mizzou transfer Sarah Moore roped a single to center for the go-ahead run, but Ybarra was hosed at home attempting to score on a misplay by the 49ers' center fielder.  The Titans eventually stranded the bases loaded and were only able to manufacture one run on four hits before LBSU's heroics in the bottom of the inning sent the Titans their second heartbreaking walk-off loss of the season.

Fullerton sophomore Christina Washington (14-6) tallied the loss after giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits over the final one and 1/3 innings. CSF sophomore Cerissa Rivera was given the first start of her Titan career, scattering six hits in five innings of work. The right-hander allowed five runs (two earned) and struck out two.

GAME ONE: Long Beach State 5, Cal State Fullerton 1

Long Beach State's Lauren Lombardi broke a 1-1 tie with a grand slam in the fourth frame and Christina Clermont (13-6) picked up her second complete game in as many games to capture the series over the visiting Titans.

The 49ers began their five-run outburst with back-to-back walks by Irma Sanchez and LT Torres. An infield single from Leilani Tupua-Tautalatasi loaded the bases before Haley Tobler drew the third base on balls of the inning to walk in the tying run. Lombardi followed with her second four-bagger of the series to provide the decisive blow to post a 2-for-3 effort with one walk and four RBIs.

Clermont scattered five hits and surrendered only one run while issuing a pair of walks and stranding eight Titans on the base paths.

The Titans were the first to get on the board in the fourth as freshman Bryanna Ybarra led off with a double over the left fielder's head. Paige Kisling replaced Ybarra as a pinch-runner and scooted over to third on a sacrifice bunt from junior Samantha Galarza. With the offense struggling of late, head coach Kelly Ford elected to continue the small ball as freshman Shianne Brannan executed another bunt in front of the plate to score the charging Kisling from third to provide a short-lived 1-0 lead.

Fullerton junior Jasmine Antunez (4-6) took the loss after three and 1/3 innings of work, yielding four runs on four hits. The right-hander struggled with her control issuing seven walks. Christina Washington turned in the final two and 2/3 innings, giving up one run on four hits.
