FULLERTON, Calif.— The Cal State Fullerton (15-10) softball team concluded the Judi Garman Classic with a 4-1 loss to Wisconsin (10-9) at Anderson Family Field on Sunday afternoon. The Titans finished the tournament with a 2-3 record.
Wisconsin starter Cassandra Darrah (7-5) tossed a complete game four-hitter, yielding one unearned run along with three strikeouts in the outing. Darrah concluded the tournament with three wins against No. 7 Arizona, Long Beach State and the Titans.
Offensively, three out of the seven hits produced by the Badgers came from senior Michelle Mueller. The senior infielder batted 3-for-4, driving in three RBI which was more than enough support for Darrah to pick up her seventh win of the season. Pinch hitter Taylor Stewart chipped in a RBI-single in the fourth inning to propel the Badgers to their 10th win of the year.
Sophomore Jasmine Antunez (7-5) took the hard-luck loss for the Titans, tossing a seven-hit complete game. Antunez surrendered three earned runs and fanned five Badgers to mark her second complete game in three days.
Gabby Aragon shined for Fullerton, batting a perfect 2-for-2 including a looping RBI-single down the left field line, scoring transfer Missy Taukeiaho who reached on a fielding error by pitcher Darrah in the bottom of the first inning. Taukeiaho concluded the day batting 1-for-4, coming around to score CSF's lone run.
Excluding Aragon and Taukeiaho's performances, the Titans offense failed to reach base on the next nine plate appearances, combining for 1-for-20 to never string a rally together. Fullerton concluded the tournament with three straight losses, including ranked opponents No. 16 Nebraska, 9-2, and No. 7 Arizona, 15-0. In the first two days of the tournament, CSF swept a pair of games from San Jose State, 4-2, and Fresno State, 9-2, finishing with a 2-3 record in the four-day tournament.
In conclusion of Cal State Fullerton's Judi Garman Classic, the Titans continue their 18-game home stand in hosting the Titan Classic Mar. 14-15 at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif.
