Titans Sweep Easton Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif.-- Junior Eliza Crawford showed off her astounding power at the plate by launching two home runs and compiling three RBI to baffle George Washington 9-0 at Anderson Family Field on Sunday. Freshman Christina Washington (2-0) was superb in the circle, stifling the Colonials offensively as the Titans cruised to a third run-rule victory in as many days.

Cal State Fullerton (5-0) remain undefeated and are off to the best start since the 2000 season in which that Titans team eventually reeled off 11 consecutive wins before suffering a loss under then head coach, Michelle Gromacki.

Following today's sweep of the Easton Tournament, Fullerton moves to 5-0 on the season as George Washington falls to (0-5). The Titans will face the Toreros of San Diego (6 p.m.) on Wednesday (Feb. 12) at Anderson Family Field.

The Titans were off to another quick start as senior Gabby Aragon led off the scoring in the first inning with a two-run single as teammate Ariel Tsuchiyama was able draw a walk earlier in the inning and eventually come around to score from second base.

In the same inning, batting from the left-side, Crawford pulled a three-run homerun off of George Washington starter Courtney Martin (0-4) well over the right field fence, driving in Aragon and Samantha Galarza. The Titans knew that providing early support to freshman Washington would only increase the probability of another strong start for the young pitcher.

Washington was challenged in the top of the third inning as George Washington's Alexandra Del Prete lead off with a single through the left field hole into center field. Catcher Samantha Dos Santos followed with a walk as Del Prete would advance to third base on a fielder's choice by the Colonials Mary Wiley. Washington thwarted the rally by forcing a fly out by the Colonials Jillian Galich. George Washington left two runners on base and was never able to recover for the rest of the game.

Fullerton led 7-0 going into the bottom half of the sixth inning in which first baseman Crawford was not finished offensively. George Washington's Meghan Rico was inserted in relief to starter Martin, but felt similar demise to the beginning of the game as Crawford soared a two-run home run to opposite field to run-rule the Colonials in six innings of play.

Notes: After completing the sweep of the Easton Tournament including a victory over No. 2 Oklahoma on Friday, CSF is off to the most consecutive wins to start a campaign since the 2000 season. Christina Washington (2-0) has now pitched a combined 10 innings and is yet to allow an earned run over the season while striking out seven over her freshman campaign. Infielder Missy Taukeiaho currently leads the Big West in batting average (.615), slugging percentage (1.077) and tied for RBI (8) and hits (8) on the 2014 season. Senior Leesa Harris is the only Titan to have hit both a double and triple offensively.
