Notre Dame's Winter Shuts Down Titans

FULLERTON, Calif. – Notre Dame's Laura Winter tossed a three-hit complete game shut out to give the Fighting Irish a 3-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton (11-14) on Wednesday night at Anderson Family Field. Notre Dame improves to 15-6 on the season and has now won its last 11 of 12 games.  

Winter improves to 8-4 on the season after allowing only three hits and striking out 11 batters. Winter's started the game striking out the first eight of nine batters and didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, but the offense for the Fighting Irish didn't show up until the fifth inning. After cruising through the first four innings, Cal State Fullerton's Jasmine Antunez allowed the Irish to score the first run of the game off an RBI double to center by first baseman Kathryn Lux. The Irish would added another run in the fifth inning after an RBI groundout from Micaela Arizmendi.

Notre Dame would get an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning off an Amy Buntin single, giving the Irish a 3-0 advantage. Cal State Fullerton's Ashley Carter, Ariel Tsuchiyama, and Tiffany Sheffler recorded hits for the Titans and Tsuchiyama continues her reaching base streak to six after a double in the fourth inning. Notre Dame's Amy Buntin was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Antunez (7-9) threw 5 2/3 innings allowing three runs off five hits, while striking out five. Sophomore Desiree Ybarra tossed the final 1 1/3 inning giving up one hit and no runs.

Notre Dame continues play at the Judi Garman Classic tomorrow March 14 at 1:30 versus the University of Arizona, while Cal State Fullerton takes on Arizona State at 4 p.m. at Anderson Family Field.
