Host Titans Sweep Day One of Easton Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif- Eliza Crawford went 4-for-4 with three RBI's in a win against Indiana and Lauren Mario belted a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning against Wisconsin to earn two victories in day one of the Easton Invitational at Anderson Family Field.

In game one versus Indiana University the Titans got 4 2/3 innings of work from freshman Jasmine Antunez (5-5) and recorded 13 hits to earn the 8-2 victory. Cal State Fullerton then got some late-inning heroics from second baseman Lauren Mario to take the victory over the Badgers 6-4 in game two.

Fullerton improves to 8-9 on the season, while Indiana falls to 10-7. Wisconsin moves to 12-2 and snaps an 11-game winning streak. Indiana will face Indiana and Oregon State tomorrow, while Wisconsin matches up against California and CSU Bakersfield in day two of the Easton Invitational.

The Titans return to play tomorrow at 11:15 a.m versus Stanford for the first of two games and will play immediately after against the University of Iowa at Anderson Family Field.

Game 1 Cal State Fullerton 8, Indiana 2

After only managing five hits in a shut-out loss to Wisconsin the night before, the Cal State Fullerton softball team tallied 13 hits against Indiana University to take the victory 8-2.

The Titans got on the board first in the third inning off an RBI single to right field from designated player Desiree Ybarra. However, the Hoosiers answered back in the top of the fourth inning with a solo shot from third baseman Amanda Wagner to tie the game at one.

Cal State Fullerton got a break in the bottom of the fourth inning when the sun started to play a big role. With two runners on Jasmine Antunez hit a chopper to the Indiana shortstop Shelby Gogreve, who then misplayed the ball due to the sun. The ball would go under her glove giving Antunez a two-run triple and the Titans a 3-1 lead.

Eliza Crawford hit her first home run of the season in the bottom the fifth inning to extend the Titans lead to 4-1. The Titans added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI triple by Leesa Harris, a double by right fielder Tiffany Sheffler, and a two-run single by Eliza Crawford scoring Ashley Carter and Kirsten Lambertson.

Katey Laban drew her second start of the season tossing 2 1/3 inning giving up one hit and issuing two walks. After allowing two baserunners to reach, Antunez came into the game throwing the final 4 2/3 inning giving up two runs on seven hits to earn the victory. Antunez struck out five hoosiers in the game and improves to 5-5 on the season.

Meaghan Murphy (5-4) recorded the loss after giving up four run off nine hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. Murphy was relieved by Tamayo Miranda in bottom of the sixth inning who gave up four runs off four hits in 1/3 inning of work.

Eliza Crawford went 4-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored while Ashley Carter added two hits and two runs scored.

Amanda Wagner went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Michelle Huber was 2-for-3 for the Hoosiers.

Ariel Tsuchiyama snapped her 13-game streak of reaching base safely.

Game 2 Cal State Fullerton 6, Wisconsin 4

Junior Lauren Mario hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Titans the 6-4 victory over the University of Wisconsin Friday night at Anderson Family Field.

The Badgers took the lead in the top of the first off an error from Cal State Fullerton third baseman Eliza Crawford, scoring Mary Massei from third. The Titans would answer back in the bottom half of the inning off an RBI double to the left center by Desiree Ybarra bringing in Ashley Carter from second.

The Badgers would take the lead right back in the top of third off a two-run shot to right field by Michelle Mueller giving Wisconsin a 3-1 lead. The Titans and Badgers would go scoreless for two innings before a sacrifice fly from first baseman Melissa Sechrest cut the lead down to 3-2.

Wisconsin's Shannel Blackshear added a solo shot to center field in the 6th inning to give the Badgers a 4-2 lead, but in the bottom of the sixth inning the Titans would rally back to take the victory.

Sechrest's RBI single to score pinch runner Cami Jacob from third cut the Badger lead down to one and two batters later Mario's home run put the Titans up for good. Desiree Ybarra (2-3) tossed six innings giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits. Antunez recorded her first save of the season after retiring the side in the seventh.

Meghan Mcintosh (2-2) took the loss after giving up four runs, one earned, in the sixth inning. Paige-Taylor Stewart started the game, throwing five innings giving up two runs off three hits.

The Badgers fall to 12-2 on the season, while the Titans improve to 8-9.
