LOS ANGELES,Calif. - After knocking off the No. 7 ranked Missouri Tigers last Saturday,the Cal State Fullerton softball team (6-8) played spoiler again this time knocking off the No. 10 ranked UCLA Bruins 11-5 at Easton Stadium. UCLA drops to 13-2 on the season and heads to San Diego to compete in the San Diego Classic.

The Titans had an offensive explosion Tuesday afternoon scoring 11 runs on a whopping 13 hits. The Titans also set a new record for most runs scored against the UCLA Bruins in the 73-game history between the two schools. The most runs scored against UCLA prior to today's game was seven runs,which they scored on April 25, 1989.

The Titans striked early in the game, scoring in the first inning after red shirt sophomore ELiza Crawford blasted a 3-2 pitch to the top of the wall for an RBI single scoring Ariel Tsuchyiama from second. Antunez would get the first batter in the bottom of the first inning to strikeout, however after a few pitches to the next batter, Stephany LaRosa, the game would be delayed due to bees in centerfield. The game resumed after a 22 minute delay.  

The Titans would extend their lead in the top of the third inning. Ashley Carter led off the
inning with a single back up the middle and then two batters sophomore Desiree Ybarra belted a 0-2 pitch over the right center fence for a two run home run for her second of the season.

A two-out rally in the bottom of the third helped UCLA get back into the ball game. UCLA
leftfielder B.B Bates would single to center field and the next batter Jessica Hall crushed a 2-1
pitch over the left center fence to cut the CSF lead down to 3-2.The Bruins would strike again in the third inning after UCLA first baseman Brittany Moeai hit a single to the right field wall
scoring Ally Carda from second to tie it up at three.

After a three-run bottom of the third by the Bruins, Cal State Fullerton would take the lead for
good with a big fourth inning. The Titans would start off the inning with Lauren Mario, Leesa
Harris, and Tiffany Sheffler all getting on base to load the bases for leadoff hitter Ashley
Carter. Carter then hit a single to left field off the glove of UCLA's B.B Bates to give the Titans a 5-3 lead. The Titan would add two more in the fourth from a Ybarra sacrifice fly and Tsuchiyama RBI double.

UCLA's Bates tried to get the Bruins back in the game in the bottom of the fourth adding a two-run home run to cut the Titan lead to 7-5, but again Fullerton would extend their lead in the next half inning.

After loading the bases in the second straight inning, Tsuchiyama drew a one-out walk to bring in Leesa Harris to give the Titans an 8-5 lead. Fullerton then added two more runs after Ybarra double to right scoring Sheffler and Carter to give the Titans a 10-5 lead. Crawford added a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

In her 11th start of the season Antunez (4-4) pitched four innings giving up three runs on four hits, while striking out six. Even though Antunez was the starting pitcher for the Titans, Coach Kelly Ford used a pitching strategy to try and catch the Bruins off guard, by rotating Antunez and Ybarra each inning. Ybarra pitched three innings giving up two run, while striking out three.

Ally Carda (8-1) took the loss tossing 6 1/3 innings giving up seven runs on 10 hits. Carda recorded her first loss of the season.

Ybarra led the Titans going 2-for-5 with four RBI's and a run scored, Carter finished with three hits scoring four runs in the contest, and Eliza Crawford was 3-for-4 with three RBI's. Leesa Harris and Ariel Tsuchiyama both scored two runs for the Titans.

B.B Bates and Jessica Hall both hit home runs and added two RBI's apiece for the Bruins. Brittany Moeai added an RBI single in the third inning also.

Cal State Fullerton returns home to Anderson Family Field on Thursday (Feb.28) to take on the University of Wisconsin at 3 p.m. The Titans will play host to nine teams from around the country over the weekend at the Easton tournament in Fullerton, Calif. Northwestern, Wisconsin, Indiana, Cal Poly SLO, Oregon State, Iowa, Stanford, California, and CSU Bakersfield will travel to Southern California to compete in the tournament.
