Palm Springs, Calif.- The Cal State Fullerton bats came alive in game one of the Mary Nutter Classic versus Loyola Marymount as the Titans had 11 hits to defeat LMU 7-1. In game two, the Titans squared off against the No. 4 ranked Tennessee Volunteers losing 5-0. Fullerton ends up going 1-1 at the Mary Nutter Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. making their record 4-7 on the year. Ashley Carter went 4-for-8 over the two games with two runs scored and a RBI and seven different Titans had an RBI in game one.

The Titans return home Saturday, February 23 to take on the No. 7 ranked Missouri Tigers in a non-conference doublheader starting at 2 p.m. at Anderson Family Field.

Tennessee and LMU will continue to play in the Mary Nutter Classic over the next two days. LMU moves to 3-4 on the season and will face off against Arizona tomorrow at 8:30 p.m and Tennessee improves to 12-0 and will play Northwestern and UCLA tomorrow.

Game 1: Cal State Fullerton 7, LMU 1

The Titans found themselves trailing 1-0 after a bases-loaded walk to LMU third basemen Meghan Harmanin the first inning , but quickly answered back in the second and never looked back. Cal State Fullerton started off the second inning with a single to left from freshman Jasmine Antunez. Antunez then advanced to third on a single to right by Lauren Mario. After Mario stole second, Leesa Harris collected her first RBI of the season after grounding out to third to score Antunez from third.

The Titans would take the lead for good in the third inning. Senior Ashley Carter led off the inning and reached on a fielding error by LMU first basemen Olivia Alvarez. After stealing second base and advancing to third on a throwing error from the LMU catcher, Carter would score off an RBI single to center by Cal State FUllerton third basemen Eliza Crawford.

The Titans would extend their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning off a Carter RBI single scoring Mario from second. Desiree Ybarra would later add one more in the fifth off a sacrifice fly to left Leesa Harris from third.
 
After giving up six runs in her last appearance against Oregon in the Easton Desert Classic, Antunez (3-4) allowed only one hit in the complete game victory. She allowed a hit and three walks in a row to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the firsty. However, after issuing a walk to Harman, Antunez settled down retiring the next eight LMU hitters. Antunez would get in some trouble in the fifth aftter giving up a hit and two walks to load the bases, but got LMU Danielle Smith to fly out to right. Antunez's finished the game giving up three hits and walking 7 batters, while striking out seven.  
 
Tiffany Sheffler added an RBI in the seventh inning for her second RBI of the season. Ashley Carter went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI and Lauren Mario and Leesa Harris each had two hits.

Loyola Marymount only had three hits, but seven walks issued out by Antunez gave the Lions plenty of chances to score runs. Meghan Harman went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Breeanna Sandoval went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Dana Waldusky (1-2) gave up six runs, four earned, off nine hits to take the loss. The Titans put the ball in play against Waldusky in all, but two at-bats. Stephanie Crist relieved Waldusky in the seventh giving up one run.

LMU falls to 3-4 on the season.

Game 2 Tennessee 5, Cal State Fullerton 0

The Titans hung around with the No. 4 ranked team in the country according to ESPN.com and USA Today Poll throughout the game, but the Volunteers were too much to handle taking the victory 5-0.

Ivy Renfroe (3-0) tossed a five hit shutout, while also striking out five Titan batters for the complete game victory. Ivory retired nine Titan batters in a row at one point and only fell in trouble a couple times throughout the game.

The Volunteers got the lead in the bottom of the first off a Titan miscue. The Volunteers loaded the bases and with one out Cheyanne Tarango hit a comebacker back to the mound where starting pitcher Desiree Ybarra got the force out at home, but Cal State catcher Kirsten Lambertson threw the ball over first basemen Melissa Sechrest's head to score Madison Shipman from second.

The Titans got an unlucky bounce in the third inning when Ybarra doubled down the line, which would have easily scored Ashley Carter from first base, but the ball went under the fence forcing Carter to go back to third. The next batter Eliza Crawford would then strikeout to end the inning.

Tennessee would extend their lead to 3-0 in the third inning when Lauren Gibson doubled to left to score Kat Dotson and Melissa Davin would hit a sacrifice fly center to score Shipman from third.

Madison Shipman would add a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the Volunteers up 4-0 and in the sixth inning Kat Dotson would put the exclamation point on the victory with an RBI single to center, which would score pinch runner Tory Lewis from third.

Ybarra (0-2) would take the loss giving up 5 runs, 4 earned, off eight hits. Ybarra struck out one Volunteer in six innings in her first start of the season.

Carter led all Titan batters with two hits, while Ybarra, Mario, and Tsuchiyama each added one. Madison Shipman led the way for the Volunteers going 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. UT's Kat Dotson was 2-for-3 with an RBI as well.
