FULLERTON, CA - Former Cal State Fullerton All-American Jenny Topping and her teammates on the gold medal-winning 2004 United States Olympic Softball Team will be inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame's Class of 2012 on July 12 in Chicago.

The 2004 squad will be the first softball athletes to be inducted into the Hall of Fame after finishing with a perfect 9-0 record in Athens that included eight consecutive shutouts and four run-rule wins. The United States outscored the opposition by a 51-1 count, not allowing a run until Australia scored in the sixth inning of the gold medal game.

Topping, a three-time first-team All-American and three-time Big West Conference Player of the Year at Cal State Fullerton from 2001-03, appeared in four games for the United States, finishing 4-for-6 (.667) at the plate with a triple and pair of walks.

Topping continues to hold four Fullerton career records in average (.443), slugging percentage (.771), and on base percentage (.573) while walking a record 137 times. She also holds single-season records for average (.472 in 2002), slugging percentage (.821 in 2001), on base percentage (.576 in 2003), runs scored (55 in 2001), doubles (19 in 2001), RBI (59 in 2001), and walks (56 in 2001).

Members of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Softball Team set 18 Olympic records in Athens. Among the teams records set were the most hits (73), highest team batting average (.343) and highest slugging percentage (.559). Lisa Fernandez set the individual record for batting average with .545 while Crystal Bustos' 10 RBI and five home runs were also records.

The U.S. pitching staff, led by Fernandez, had the lowest combined earned run average (.12) in Olympic history. One run is also the fewest allowed by a team in Olympic history.

The three alternate members were Jaime Clark (Tustin, Calif./Washington), Nicole Giordano (Saugus, Calif./Arizona) and Lauren Lappin (Anaheim, Calif./Stanford). The team was coached by Mike Candrea (Tucson, Ariz./Arizona Head Coach) with assistant coaches Ken Eriksen (Tampa, Fla./South Florida Head Coach) and John Rittman (Palo Alto, Calif./Stanford Head Coach).
