FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team dropped their 2022 season opener against the No. 3 team in the country, BYU by a score of 1-0 on Thursday night at Titan Stadium.

Last year's NCAA runner-up, the BYU Cougars controlled a majority of the game as they outshot the Titans 27-to-5 with 10 shots on goal compared to the Titans 1.

The defense and the goalkeeping play were a major reason why the Titans frustrated the BYU Cougars for most of the night.  In her collegiate debut, Mia Ranson made seven saves and snuffed out the BYU attacks for almost the entire night.  DeAira Jackson played the final 10 minutes and also made a great save to finish the game.

The Titans had a couple opportunities to score a goal in the game as Colette Ledden had a golden chance at the end of the first half, but the Cougar keeper Savanna Mason was able to save it.  Another freshman making her debut, Mia Mirelez also had some nice shots in the second half that just missed the Cougars frame.

BYU scored the only goal of the game in the 61st minute.  Zoe Jacob's cross found the head of Bella Folino who headed into the far top corner for the only goal of the game.

The Titans will look to shake things off as they host New Mexico State on Sunday, August 21st at 5:00 p.m. The Aggies dropped their season opener against Oregon, 2-0, on Thursday night.
