FULLERTON, Calif. – Six different players scored in Cal State Fullerton's 6-3 victory over San Diego on Sunday night at Titan Stadium.

The win completes Fullerton's non-conference portion of the schedule at 8-1-1, the first time the Titans have suffered just one loss in the preseason since 2002.

Fullerton had a 1-0 lead at halftime after senior center back Morgan Batcheller scored on a penalty kick driven high and out of the reach of San Diego goalkeeper McKenna Tollack in the 23rd minute. The penalty was awarded when Rebecca Wilson was pulled down in the box after a give-and-go with Ivy Diego that had Fullerton's leading scorer splitting two defenders and heading for goal.

But after a one-goal first half, San Diego (2-7-2) and the Titans combined for eight second-half goals.

The Toreros evened the score less than a minute into the second half as Tara Meier beat Titan goalkeeper Jennifer Stuart at the far post after Julianne De Armas danced her way around two Titan defenders and served a cross from the left side.

Fullerton answered to take a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute as Kaycee Hoover delivered one of her two assists on the day. Hoover found an open Jessica Simonian on the right side, and the freshman supplied a cross that a sliding Connie Caliz was able to get a toe to at the near post.

The Titans scored a third goal less than two minutes later as Jazzmin Mancilla was able to slot a shot to the far right corner after Christina Burkenroad's initial shot was saved and she found her way to the deflection.

Fullerton took a 4-1 lead in the 58th minute as Wilson, Fullerton's leading goal scorer with 10 goals, was able to beat USD down the middle of the pitch as Hoover and Caliz provided the assists.

Fullerton's fifth goal was scored by Sarah Fajnor as Burkenroad delivered a ball from the left side and Fajnor connected to the low far post.

USD made things interesting in the last 12 minutes of the game, cutting CSF's lead to 5-2 on Caitlyn Kretzschmar's header which beat sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Bertsch on Julia Sherwood's corner. Less than two minutes later, Sherwood served in another assist as Jacquelin Altschuld scored at the far post to close 5-3.

But the Titan freshman combination of Brooke Ligtenberg, Nano Oronoz and Jannelle Garcia thwarted the comeback with a goal in the 84th minute. Garcia scored her first goal as a Titan as Ligtenberg found an open Oronoz up the left side, drawing a defender and freeing Oronoz for an open goal.

The Titans, the defending 2014 Big West regular season and tournament champions, open conference play on Sunday, Oct. 4, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. at Long Beach State.
