Getting To Know Sarah Fajnor

FULLERTON, Calif. – In February, Cal State Fullerton women's soccer head coach Demian Brown inked his 2014 signing class to National Letters of Intent.

Throughout the spring, FullertonTitans.com will "Get to Know" the newest Titans, that will step on campus for the 2014-15 academic year.

The fifth 2014 Titan signee to join FullertonTitans.com for the Q&A is forward Sarah Fajnor of Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton.

The Lancers recently won their fourth consecutive Freeway League championship, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division II CIF Southern Section girls soccer championships.

FullertonTitans.com: Why did you decide to attend Cal State Fullerton and play for the Titans?
 
Sarah: My first club coach, Laura Janke, was a former goalkeeper coach and goalkeeper at Cal State Fullerton. She showed me what Cal State Fullerton was all about.

I grew up going to games, and I saw what the program did for the community, the types of student-athletes that played for the Titans and the whole atmosphere at Cal State Fullerton.

I fell in love with the school and with the women's soccer program. Ever since then, I wanted to become a Titan. As I got older and entered the recruiting process, Cal State Fullerton was at the top of my list. The Titans had everything I wanted: Division I soccer , a great program, great coaches, great teammates, a family atmosphere, great academics, a chance to give back to the community, and most importantly, a chance for my parents to watch me play. Fullerton has it all.

It has been a childhood dream of mine to play at Fullerton, and I am proud to say that I achieved it. 

FullertonTitans.com: Head coach Demian Brown describes you as a "true-scoring threat," but can you tell Titan fans about your style of play?

Sarah: I don't really know how to really explain my style of play. I just do what my coaches tell me to do. I change and adapt to what they ask from me. I do whatever it takes to make my team successful.
 

FullertonTitans.com: You were named Homecoming Queen this year, what was that experience like?

Sarah: It was absolutely incredible. When I was a freshman, I told my best friend that I was going to try and get on the Homecoming court. Senior year arrived, and I held to my word. I tried and actually got on the court, which was a shock to me. The whole process was very nerve racking, but it was such an honor having the whole school vote and choose me.  I never thought in a million years I would be Homecoming Queen. It was an experience I will never forget.
 

FullertonTitans.com: What should Cal State Fullerton fans know about you?

Sarah: Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a Titan and I cannot wait to be a part of this program and university. CSUF is a great school, and I cannot wait to represent Cal State Fullerton and give it my all.
 

FullertonTitans.com: What do you love most about the sport of soccer?

Sarah: Soccer is truly the best sport in the world. The sport itself is beautiful, and anyone can play soccer - that's what I love. It doesn't matter if you're 5-foot-2 or 6-foot-4; it's such a great game for anyone to play. Soccer is exciting, challenging and fun, and it takes hard work and skill. What's not to love?
 

FullertonTitans.com: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

Sarah: I'm a very superstitious person. If I have a good game, I will do exactly the same thing for the next game. I put on my cleats and shin guards in a certain order. I have special pre-wrap and bows that I wear for games. I wear specific sports bras and sliders as well. I also wear a tape around my wrist with my sister's and niece's initials.
 

FullertonTitans.com: If you could plan one road trip for the 2014 season, where would you want to go play and why?

Sarah: I would want to go to North Carolina because UNC has a legendary program and I would want to go and see for myself what it's all about. I would also want to go to Stanford because it's beautiful, and I would want revenge from last year.
