FULLERTON, Calif. –  Cal State Fullerton (12-9, 4-4 BWC) scored the first two points of the game, and then put UC Riverside in the rearview mirror.  Fullerton never trailed, as the Titans went on to a 71-61 win on Saturday night in historic Titan Gym.

As is so often the case, the Titans were once again led by guards Raina Perez and Taylor Turney.  Perez scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished off five assists in the win.  Turney led the Titans with 23 points, and also contributed seven boards, five assists and five steals.  Carolyn Gill led the team with eight rebounds.

Freshman Megan Nieto has proven to be a significant contributor off of the bench.  Against the Highlanders, she logged a career-high 13 points on 4-6 shooting from the field, and 5-8 from the charity stripe.  She also hauled down three rebounds and had two steals.

Head coach Jeff Harada had this to say about the win:  "I was really proud of our collective effort, especially on the defensive end tonight.  I thought we set the tone early, and put our foot on the gas pedal all night.  Riverside is a very good team, and we knew that that they weren't going to lay down, so we definitely had to earn it."

Fullerton shot 43.9% from the floor, while UC Riverside shot only 36.5%.  The Highlanders only shot 2-18 (11.1%) from behind the 3-point arc.  Fullerton also outscored UCR on fast break points, 20 to nine.

The Titans will go on the road next week to face UC Irvine on Thursday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m., and Cal Poly at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15.
