FULLERTON, Calif. – Days off are somewhat of a rarity for NCAA Division I student-athletes. The Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team put its most recent off day to good use on Monday afternoon, doing its part to give back to the community.
Student-athletes and members of the coaching staff spent the better part of the afternoon wrapping presents for a family in need residing in the community through the Healthy Start program.
"This is something that I've always wanted to do. We're so fortunate and blessed to have this life. For us this is perfect, the family is mostly girls and us being a women's basketball team it is a great match. The players were very eager and enthusiastic to help out during the holiday season. The team will take many life lessons away from this, especially since there is so much more than just basketball," said head coach Daron Park.

The Healthy Start program helps single mothers in need with medical care, helps at-risk women meet their basic human needs, such as food and housing, and empower their participants to advocate for themselves.
"We're really blessed and fortunate so it's great to be able to give back to a family and impact multiple people's lives," said senior guard Alex Thomas.
The Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team returns to action at home on Saturday, Dec. 21 vs. Seattle. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Titan Gym.
