FULLERTON, Calif. – Former Cal State Fullerton men's soccer standout, Christian Pinzon, signs with Chivas.
Pinzon was drafted 47th overall in the MLS SuperDraft in January by the Chicago Fire but elected to sign with Chivas after showing his talents while training with the first team over the last few months. Pinzon joins a shortlist of U.S. college athletes to sign immediately to Liga MX and joins one of the most renowned clubs in all of North America.
"Christian Pinzon is a guy who stayed true to his values, stayed with his club team, stayed with Cal State Fullerton and followed his dream. I feel his story is just beginning," Head Coach George Kuntz said. "He is a skillful, tactically smart, attacking minded, and explosive player who has really developed over the past four years at Cal State Fullerton while playing meaningful games. We think this is just the beginning of more student-athletes that will be seen by international clubs and know their value."
During his time with the Titans, Pinzon scored 14 goals and distributed seven assists in his three seasons. He started in all 20 games during the 2019 season and finished the year with a team-high 21 points on seven goals and seven assists. He was named Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week after leading the Titans to wins over Air Force and No. 14 Florida Gulf Coast, recording two goals and two assists in the two games.
He helped lead the Titans to their best start in program history with an 8-0 start to the season and went on to earn First Team All-Conference honors and All-Far West Region Second Team honors.
As a sophomore in 2018, appeared in all 21 games for the Titans and finished the season tied for second on the team with 12 points on a team-high six goals. He was named to the 2018 Big West Conference Honorable Mention.
