FULLERTON, Calif. – After a defensive battle in the first half, Cal State Fullerton opened up the game to score two goals in the final 45 minutes, leading to a 2-0 victory over Utah Valley Sunday night at Titan Stadium. The Titans are now 4-0 to start the season for the first time since 2000 under legendary Head Coach Al Mistri.

The game was deadlocked for the first 48 minutes of action until first year transfer Jessy Sotelo broke the tie in the 49th minute on his first NCAA Division I goal. Both Christian Pinzon and Jose Delgado assisted on the play.

Pinzon had a strong weekend on the field, scoring one goal along with two assists to rack up four points. So far through four games this season, Pinzon leads the team with seven points on two goals and three assists.

Late in the game with Titans up by just one goal, Charly Anguiano came through to extend the lead on his first collegiate goal in the 80th minute of play on an assist from Oscar Flores. Minutes later Anguiano nearly struck again on a beautiful free kick from 20 yards but just barely hit the crossbar.

Flores has stepped up in a big way for the Titans offense in his final season. In 44 games played in his previous three seasons, Flores recorded three points. So far through four games this season he is second on the team with six points on two goals and two assists.

For the second time this season the Titans recorded a clean sheet, giving goalkeeper Paul-Andre Guerin 17 shutouts for his career. Guerin needs just three more shutouts this season to hold the all-time record at Cal State Fullerton.

The Titans look to extend their hot start to the season as they return to Titan Stadium Friday to host No. 23 Air Force at 7:00 p.m. before taking on Florida Gulf Coast at 5:00 p.m. PT.
