FULLERTON, Calif. – Sophomore Diego Sanchez netted two goals and led the Titans to their third straight win defeating San Francisco 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium.
Cal State Fullerton (3-2-0) has won their third straight game after dropping their first two matches of the season while recording their second shutout of the year.
Titan goalkeeper David Rodriguez Elias recorded a season-high five saves en route to his second shutout of the year.
Sanchez scored the first of his two goals in the 15th minute when he volleyed it off a cross from Nicolo D'Amato to find the back left net to put the Titans ahead, 1-0.
To keep the scoring rolling in the second half, D'Amato netted his first of the season off a free kick that went off the head of one of the San Francisco defenders and into the goal.
Minutes later, Ross McPhie found Sanchez on the right side of the box where he shot it over the goalkeeper to net his second of the day. The sophomore now leads the Titans offense with three goals on the season while being tied for first in the Big West in goals.
The Titans outshot the Dons a season-high 16-12 while also setting a season-high with four corner kicks.
Cal State Fullerton is off to its best start since 2011 when the Titans were 3-0-2 in the first five games of the season.
The Titans are now 2-0 playing in front of their home crowd at Titan Stadium and will look to extend that streak next weekend as they host San Diego Friday night at 7 p.m.
Notes: Rodriguez Elias has only allowed one goal in the last 270 minutes of play… The Titans bounced back to beat USF after dropping their home opener to the Dons last season in a 2-1 loss… This three game winning-streak is the longest since the Titans won three straight in October 2014… The Titans are now 175-73-3 all-time at Titan Stadium…
