SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Ruben Alvarez netted the first goal of his Titan career in the second half to give Cal State Fullerton the 2-1 win over Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon at Buck Shaw Field.

Cal State Fullerton, now 2-2-0, was outshot by Santa Clara 11-13 yet had five shots on goal compared to Santa Clara's two.

After a scoreless first half, Santa Clara's Carlos Delgadillo scored the first goal of the game in the 63rd minute to put the Broncos up 1-0. Less than five minutes later, Cal State Fullerton's Diego Sanchez slipped a shot past Broncos goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh off a chip from Alex Heilmann to knot the score at 1.

With just under 10 minutes of regulation left to play, freshman Brandon West managed to slip behind the Bronco defense to find Alvarez on a cross who puts it in to give the Titans the go-ahead.

Titan goalkeeper David Elias Rodriguez had one save in the win to give him a total of 10 on the year.

Fullerton returns to action next Sunday hosting San Francisco at 2 p.m. at Titan Stadium.

NOTES: The goals from Sanchez and Alvarez were both their firsts of the season, the first game-winner and career goal for Alvarez… This is the Titans' best start since 2011 when they went 2-0-2 in the first four games… Fullerton has now beat the Broncos in their last two meetings, the last being in Fullerton last year when they beat them 1-0…
