DAVIS, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's soccer team won its opening match of the 2014 Big West Conference Tournament in dramatic fashion behind a pair of goals in the last five minutes of play by Ian Ramos and Nigel Patterson to stun UC Davis, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field.

The game-winning goal originated from a Ramos corner kick on the final offensive play in regulation after the senior midfielder scored the equalizing goal three minutes earlier.

The game-winner was crossed in, and with UC Davis defenders scrambling to clear the ball, Patterson poked it through traffic and into the back of the net to give the Titans a 2-1 lead, leaving only 8.9 seconds left on the clock.

The last minute heroics from Patterson could not have been possible without the tying goal from Ramos in the 86th minute. The senior stepped up and took a hopeful shot from 30 yards out that seemed to confuse Aggie goalkeeper Armando Quezada as it flew over him and into the middle of the net, tying the score 1-1.

The game was a back-and-forth affair until a red card was shown in the 68th minute to Aggie defender Ramon Martin Del Campo after picking up his second yellow card of the game.  With the score still tied 0-0, it was looking like Fullerton had the advantage going into the late stages of the game.  But in the 72nd minute, Dashiell MacNamara ignited the crowd at Aggie Soccer Field by putting one past CSF keeper Jeff Salt and going ahead 1-0 despite playing a man down.

With a lead in hand, UCD played all 10 men in a defensive shell to try and secure the unlikely 1-0 victory.

The Titans, the No. 3 seed from the South Division, will travel to UC Riverside on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Highlanders in the Big West Conference Tournament semifinals at UC Riverside Soccer Stadium.  UCR finished first in the South Division with a record of 5-9-4, 4-3-3 in the Big West.
