Former Anteater Assistant Aguilar Joins Titans’ Coaching Staff

FULLERTON, Calif. – Former UC Irvine volunteer assistant coach Carlos Aguilar has been hired as an assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton, Titans' head coach George Kuntz announced Tuesday.

"Carlos brings a championship mentality to this program and will be a great mentor for our student-athletes during training, matches, and in the classroom," said Kuntz.

Aguilar becomes the first addition to the Titans' coach staff since Kuntz was named the head coach earlier this year, and will join fellow assistant coach Adam Reeves on the staff.

Aguilar recently completed his third season at UC Irvine as a volunteer assistant, helping guide the Anteaters to last season's NCAA Sweet 16 before dropping a 1-0 contest to Maryland. The Anteaters finished the season 15-5-3 overall, which was the second-highest win total in program history. Over his three seasons as an assistant coach, the Anteaters compiled a record of 36-25-5 (.583).

Before coaching at UC Irvine, Aguilar played professionally in the USSF D-2 with the Rochester Rhinos in 2010. He made his professional debut on April 10, 2010 in Rochester's season-opening match against Miami FC.

His soccer success also extends to his player career, as he played two years with UC Irvine from 2008-09. He earned Big West Conference Tournament MVP honors in 2009, along with First Team All-Big West status. During his time as an Anteater, he was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week once and College Soccer News Team of the Week twice.

Aguilar came to UCI from Taft College where he played from 2006-07. Each year, he was named Central Valley College First Team All-Conference, and the team went to the Junior College state championship match, winning the title in 2007.

Aguilar played prep soccer at Palmdale High School. He lead his school to the CIF semifinal match his senior season. That year, he also earned Third Team All-CIF and First Team All-Golden Valley honors.

"Carlos has been a winner at the junior college level and at the collegiate level. He was the MVP while we won two Big West championships at UCI, so I know he will help bring a lot of success to this program."
