EWA BEACH, Hi. – All good things must come to an end. The Hoakalei Country Club Invitational is now complete. The men's golf team will leave the island paradise and return home to their schoolbooks. The Titans wrapped up the tournament today with an impressive fourth place with a team score of seven-under par 857. 20 teams and 113 golfers participated in the three-day event.
Derek Castillo had a great tournament, shooting 70-69-68 to finish at a nine-under par 207, and in a four-way tie for second place. Just two strokes behind was Jack Dyer, who finished alone in eighth place with a seven-under par 209. Dyer was a tri-medalist at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational. This is Dyer's third top ten finish of the season. Castillo, not to be outdone, also has three top ten finishes. Both have played in a total of four tournaments.
The rest of the Titan team finished bunched together: Matt Rafter finished tied for 62nd place with a five-over par 221. Dalton Daniel tied for 81st place with an eight-over par 224. One stroke behind was Jack Sharkey, with a 9-over par 225 and a tie for 83rd place. Garrett Boe, playing as an individual, finished with a 10-over par 226. Boe tied for 89th place.
With the conclusion of this tournament, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team will go on a winter hiatus. While the players may practice during this period, the NCAA allows very limited interaction with the coaching staff. The team will next play at the Orange County Classic from February 10-11 at the Coto de Caza Golf Club. CSUF and UCI are co-hosting.
