Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational Round One Results (PDF)
STOCKTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton is tied for 11th after the first round at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational hosted by the University of Pacific Thursday at Stockton Country Club.
The Titans shot a 16-over 300 in the opening round and are tied with UC Riverside in the overall team standings. Sacramento State leads the 13-team field after the first 18 holes after carding a collective 6-under 278 on Thursday. The Hornets are four strokes up on BYU and six strokes ahead of Boise State.
Fullerton had six golfers in Stockton with Jack Ireland competing as an individual. He would record the best score of the first round by a Titans golfer as he shot a 1-over 72 and is currently tied for 23rd. He began the day on Hole No. 10 and shot a 1-under on the back nine to start the day. He recorded eight pars on the front nine but a double bogey on the 407-yard par-4 No. 4 put him at 1-over for the day. He finished the day with 14 pars, which tied for the fourth most amongst the 78-player field.
On the team scoring front, Mark Cobey led the Titans lineup with a 2-over 73 in the first round. He's currently tied for 32nd, recording two birdies on the day. CJ Coleman, who played in his first career tournament last week as an individual, had the second best score for the Titans on the team side, carding a 3-over 74 and is tied for 40th place.
Matt Wilson posted a 5-over 76 to finish in a tie for 55th after 18 holes. Michael Sharkey and Ty Stites each recorded a 6-over 77 to round out the team scoring as both are tied for 65th overall. Stites sunk an eagle on the 531-yard par 5 No. 14, one of six recorded in round one.
Rhett Rasmussen (BYU) and Aaron Beverly (Sacramento State) currently lead the individual field as each carded a 4-under 67 on Thursday.
The Titans will return to the links Friday morning for round two of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational. Teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m.
