SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team placed 10th at the 2015 Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club following the third and final round of play on Tuesday.
The Titans finished 34 shots back of champion Loyola Marymount, recording a final score of 12-over-par 876 after Tuesday's third round mark of 289 which moved Fullerton up one spot in the standings.
LMU won the Cullum Invitational title with a final score of 842 (-22), followed by Pepperdine (847; -17), Santa Clara (852, -12), Seattle (865; +1) and Long Beach State (867; +3) to round out the top five. Additional Big West Conference finishes included UC Santa Barbara (868; +4) in sixth, Cal Poly (870; +6) in seventh, UC Riverside (875; +11) in ninth, Hawai'i (887; +23) tied for 13th, UC Irvine (892; +28) in 15th and host CSUN (906; +42) in 16th.
Junior Matt Murphy's third-round score of 70 (-2) moved him up 12 spots from Monday as he tied for 22nd in the standings as the top Titan finisher with a total score of 216 (E).
In his first event of the season, senior Nico Mendoza finished tied for 29th with a total score of two-over-par 218 after a mark of 73 (+1) in the third and final round on Tuesday.
Freshman Jack Ireland had a tough third-round score of 76, which dropped him to 43rd in the standings with a final total of 222 (+6).
Sophomore Mark Cobey shot a 76 (+4) in the third round to finish the Bill Cullum in 64th place with a total score of 226 (+10).
Senior Mark Jensma produced a 2-under-par round of 70 on Tuesday – his best of the tournament – to move him up 13 spots as the veteran finished in 77th with a final three-round total of 230 (+14).
Fidel Concepcion of Southern Utah moved up five spots in the standings with a third-round score of 67 to finish as the 2015 Bill Cullum Individual champion with a final score of 9-under-par 207.
The Titans return to action in their last competition of the fall on Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational.
