UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team finished its first day of competition at the second annual Redhawk Invitational in 10th place at the Chambers Bay Golf Club on Monday.
The Titans recorded a first day mark of 608 (+48) after identical first and second round scores of 304 (+24). Fullerton trails Washington (-1, 559), host Seattle (+23, 583), Seton Hall (+25, 585) TCU (+32, 592) and Rutgers (+36, 596) to round out the top five squads.
Fullerton senior Ryan Tetrault led the Titans in 19th place after the first 36-holes following a 3-over 73 first round and 5-over 75 second round to tally a day one total of 148 (+8). Tetrault led the team with eight birdies.
Washington's Frank Garber (-4, 136) headlines the field with the only individual score under-par, while another pair of Huskies in Cheng-Tsung Pan and Jonathan Sanders are four-strokes behind after posting an even-par 140 to tie for second, respectively. Drexel's Christopher Crawford and William & Mary's Charlie Kern round out the top five on the leaderboard with day one totals of 142 (+2).
CSF sophomore Kyle De Silva posted a first round 79 (+9) to follow that up with a much improved and team best second round 71 (+1) to be two-strokes behind Tetrault with a 10-over 150, good for 33rd position. De Silva chalked up 21-holes at par or better to lead the squad. Fullerton freshman Mark Cobey concluded his first day of play in 50th with a total score of 154 (+14) after carding an opening round 76 (+6) and second round 78 (+8).
Fullerton senior Josh Park and junior Mark Jensma concluded their first 36-holes in 74th place after each tallied a two-round score of 21-over 161, respectively. Park, a native of Diamond Bar, Calif. shot a first round 76 (+6) and second round 85 (+15). Jensma turned in a first round 11-over 81 and followed that up with a 10-over 80.
The completion of the final 18-holes of the Redhawk Invitational will commence tomorrow at the Chambers Bay Golf Club, a par 70, at 8 a.m.
