FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's basketball team started its four-game homestand at Titan Gym with a 72-50 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday night.
The Titans (5-7) have now won two in a row – a first for Fullerton this season. The game counted as just an exhibition for Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-6) - a Division II opponent.
Alex Harris led the Titans with 16 points and four assists, scoring in double figures for the sixth-straight game. Also in double figures, Steve McClellan poured in a season-high 15 points and recorded his second double-double of the year with 10 rebounds, leading the Titans on the boards for the fifth-straight game.
Moses Morgan added an all-round effort of 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists, and Lanerryl Johnson chipped in 11 points off the bench with two assists and three steals.
Fullerton's 22-point margin of victory was its largest of the year as the Titans shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) from the floor and held a 28-12 advantage in the paint. In addition, Fullerton's bench outscored the Toros' reserves, 26-16. The Titans also outrebounded CSUDH, 40-24, scoring 14 second-chance points on 14 offensive boards.
Ivan Dooley led the Toros with 16 points as the only CSUDH player in double figures. The Toros shot 36.2 percent (17-of-47) from the floor, but did knock down eight three-pointers.
Cal State Fullerton held a 30-17 advantage at the break as McClellan scored eight points in the first 20 minutes, while Temjae Singleton and Harris scored seven apiece, respectively.
Fullerton shot 47.8 percent (11-of-23) in the first half and held the Toros to a clip of .250 (5-of-20). The Titans trailed 13-12 with 7:12 left to play in the first period, but ended the half on an 18-4 run as Morgan, McClellan and Singleton combined for 14 points.
Cal State Fullerton's homestand continues at 7 p.m. Monday as the Titans host Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
