FULLERTON, Calif. – In a hard-fought doubleheader Friday night at Goodwin Field, No. 24 Cal State Fullerton (4-4)  battled but dropped both games to No. 11 Stanford (9-1), losing game one 4-3 and game two 8-1.

GAME 1
The Titans couldn't have asked for a better start to game one. Tanner Bibee faced only three batters in the top of the inning with help from Hank LoForte on a double play to bring the Titan bats to the plate.

As the leadoff hitter, LoForte then tripled to left center-field to start the bottom of the inning and give the Titans some momentum. The very next batter, Brett Borgogno single through the left side to drive in LoForte and put Fullerton up early.

The seven, eight and nine hitters then come through for the team in the fourth inning as Jordan Hernandez and Mitchell Berryhill recorded singles, followed up by a well hit ball to the third baseman by Jackson Lyon to drive in Hernandez and put the Titans up 2-0.

Stanford came back to tie the game up in the sixth inning with Maverick Handley doubling to right center to tie the game up. The Cardinal then took the lead in the seventh on a home run from Brandon Wulff.

Fullerton answered right back in its half of the inning as Borgogno recorded his second RBI of the game, driving in Berryhill to tie the game up at 3-3 heading into the eighth inning. Borgogno went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI while Berryhill went 2-for-4 as well with one run.

The Cardinal had an answer of their own, however, scoring one run in the eighth to take a 4-3 lead that they would not relinquish.

Tanner Bibee suffered his first loss of the season (2-1) after pitching 7.2 innings and giving up four earned runs on eight hits while recording a season-high nine strikeouts. Gavin Velasquez come on in relief and went 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs.

GAME 2
The second game of the night wasn't so back-and-forth like the first game. Stanford put up three runs in the second and two runs fourth to build a 5-0 lead early on in the game.

The Titans never quit though, scoring a run in their half of the fifth inning on a single from LoForte to score AJ Curtis from second base.

Landon Anderson had a strong outing in relief of Timothy Josten, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up just one hit and striking out two. Jimmy Endersby and Evan Larson also showed promise, each going inning, giving up no hits and striking out two batters.

With the day off on Saturday, Fullerton and Stanford return to Goodwin Field for game three of the series Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PT.
