National RankingsFULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton returned to the rankings on Monday as the 2015 Big West Conference champions were rated No. 21 in the Baseball America Top 25 poll.
Collegiate Baseball ranked the Titans No. 13 in the country, while the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association spotted Fullerton at No. 29. In addition, the Titans just missed on cracking the USA Today Coaches' Poll top 25 with 42 votes.
Fullerton has not been ranked in the Baseball America Top 25 poll since the week of Monday, March 9.
The Titans (34-22, 19-5 Big West), who won their 28th overall conference championship and 20th Big West crown in 2015, will host No. 2-seed Arizona State (34-21), No. 3-seed Clemson (32-27), and No. 4 seed Pepperdine (30-27) at Goodwin Field beginning on Friday as part of the 69th annual NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
The Titans ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak and went 11-2 in the month of May to surge to the top of the Big West Conference standings.
Fullerton clinched its 28th conference title outright with a 4-0 victory over Long Beach State on Saturday. Coupled with a UC Santa Barbara loss at UC Riverside, the Titans clinched the conference title outright and earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. It will be Fullerton's 37th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including its 24th in a row.
Cal State Fullerton will face No. 4-seed Pepperdine on Friday with game time set for 7 p.m. PT on ESPN3.
The Waves won the West Coast Conference tournament and will be making their second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Last season, the Waves won the San Luis Obispo Regional and came one win short of the College World Series, falling at the Fort Worth Super Regional against TCU.
The Titans defeated the Waves 3-0 on March 3 in their only meeting of the season. The Titans and Waves have faced off seven times in the postseason, with Fullerton holding a 4-3 record.
