Titans Alumni Game Set for Saturday

FULLERTON, Calif. – The history of Cal State Fullerton baseball along with the future of the program will take center stage this Saturday as the four-time national champion Titans host the Alumni game at 1 p.m. at Goodwin Field.

The Alumni will take on the current roster of Titans that enters the 2015 season ranked No. 17 in Collegiate Baseball's preseason poll. The team will also trot out the No. 10 recruiting class as rated by Collegiate Baseball.

In recent years, more than 80 former players have made the trek back to Goodwin Field for the event, with many of them still populating the major and minor league ranks.

This season, the list of former Titans expected to return is headlined by former Golden Spikes Award winners Mark Kotsay and Phil Nevin. Others expected to attend include 2014 Major League Baseball first round draft pick Matt Chapman, current Major Leaguers Justin Turner (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Christian Colon (Kansas City Royals), Reed Johnson, Grahamm Wiest, Corey Jones, Blake Davis, Brett Pill, 2013 Big West Conference Player of the Year and Senior CLASS Award winner Carlos Lopez and Nick Ramirez along with many more familiar faces.

In last year's game, Justin Garza pitched five scoreless innings and Jake Jefferies went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI single and a run scored to lead the Titans past the Alumni 7-0. The Titans have won the game five straight years with the Alumni's last win coming in 2007. The game was cancelled due to inclement weather in 2008 and 2009.

The game is free of charge for all fans wishing to attend. Alumni registration begins at 10 a.m. with the Titans taking batting practice at 10:15 a.m. followed by the Alumni squad at 11 a.m. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

The Titans begin the 2015 season on Feb. 13 when they travel to the Clearwater Tournament hosted by South Florida in Clearwater, Fla. The Titans' home opener is set for Feb. 17 against USC followed by the first home weekend series of the year against Stanford.
