FULLERTON, Calif. – Former Cal State Fullerton standouts Vinnie Pestano, Christian Colon and Kurt Suzuki all made headlines during the past week.

Pestano Returns to Orange County

Pestano (2004-06), who made 30 appearances on the mound during the Titans 2004 national title run, was traded to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday after spending the first four-plus seasons as a member of the Cleveland Indians organization. Pestano assumed the setup role in the Indians' bullpen from 2011-12, posting a 2.45 ERA in 137 games during that stretch. 

In his time in Cleveland, the six-foot right-hander appeared in 192 games and posted a 5-8 overall record with a 2.93 ERA and tallied 11 saves. He fanned 218 batters in 181.1 innings pitched and issued 75 walks.

Colon Recalled, Makes First Career MLB Start

Colon became the 54th former Titan and 24th former Titans All-American to play in the Majors when he entered as a pinch-hitter for the Kansas City Royals on July 1. He played in six games for the Royals before being sent back down to the minors but was recalled to the big club on July 29.

The former Titan made his first career MLB start on Aug. 3 in a 4-2 win over the Oakland Athletics. Colon played third base and went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Suzuki Nabs A Contract Extension From Minnesota

Fresh off becoming the sixth former Titan to be selected to an MLB All-Star Game, Suzuki was rewarded for a stellar first half of the season with a contract extension from the Minnesota Twins on July 31. Suzuki's contract locked him up with the Twins through the 2016 season.

In 95 games this year, Suzuki leads all catchers in the American League and ranks second in the Majors with a .307 batting average. He has blasted two home runs to go along with 46 RBI and 28 runs scored with 21 doubles. He also leads all A.L. catchers with a .369 on-base percentage and ranks second amongst catchers in the A.L. with a .760 OPS.
