FULLERTON, Calif. – Former Cal State Fullerton catcher Kurt Suzuki became the sixth former Titan to be selected to participate in the Major League All-Star Game as the American League topped the National League, 5-3, Tuesday night at Target Field.
Suzuki replaced Oakland Athletics catcher Derek Norris in the top of the ninth inning and caught the final three outs from his Minnesota Twins teammate Glen Perkins to secure the victory for the American League.
Suzuki was the first former Titan to make an MLB All-Star Team since Ricky Romero in 2011 and the first to appear in the game since Aaron Rowand in 2007. Overall, former Titans have now appeared in 10 midsummer classics, five of those appearances belonging to Tim Wallach.
At the break, Suzuki is batting .309 with 18 doubles, two home runs and 37 RBI in 79 games for the Twins.
