Titans In the Pros: Colon Makes MLB Debut

FULLERTON, Calif. – Former Cal State Fullerton infielder Christian Colon made his Major League Baseball debut for the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night at Target Field in Minnesota.

Colon entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning and went 0-for-2 at the plate, playing two innings defensively at shortstop. The Corona, Calif. native became the 54th former Titan to play in MLB and the first since current Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Khris Davis made his debut on Apr. 1 of last season.

Colon also became the 24th former Titans All-American to play in the Majors and the first since Erik Komatsu played 15 games for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012. Colon was named a Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American in 2008. He followed that with a Second-Team All-American selection by Baseball America and Third-Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association as a sophomore. Colon capped off his career at Cal State Fullerton as a First Team All-American selection by Baseball America, Yahoo! Sports and the ABCA in 2010.

In his three seasons with the Titans, Colon posted a career .349 batting average with 267 hits, 214 runs scored, 46 doubles, 6 triples, 29 home runs and 147 RBI. Colon ranks fourth in runs on the Titans all-time career record book. He also ranks sixth in hits, hit-by-pitches (44) and eighth in total bases (412).

Colon was named to the All-Big West First Team in 2010 when he batted a career-best .358, starting in 64 games for the Titans and blasting a career-high 17 home runs. He scored 82 runs in 2009, placing him eighth in the Titans record book for most runs scored in a single season.
