Titans Ranked No. 1 in Final Preseason Poll

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton received more preseason praise as they were selected as the No. 1 team in the nation in the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association's  Preseason Division I poll, it was announced Monday.

It was the second time the Titans were selected as the preseason No. 1 by the NCBWA, the last time coming in 2005. The ranking also gives the Titans their third No. 1 selection in five 2014 preseason polls after they garnered the top spot in the USA Today Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll last week and the No. 1 rank in Collegiate Baseball's rankings in December.

The Titans have also been ranked No. 2 in the Perfect Game Preseason College Top 25 and No. 4 in Baseball America's preseason poll.

The NCBWA poll has 35 teams from nine different conferences with Fullerton and Cal Poly (No. 29) representing the Big West.

Using the NCBWA poll, the Titans will take on three teams ranked in the top 35. They will travel to take on No. 11 Oregon (Feb. 28 – Mar. 2) and then play a pair of games against No. 9 UCLA on Apr. 8 (home) and May 6 (away). The Titans will take on Cal Poly in a three-game series starting Apr. 17 in San Luis Obispo.

In 2013, the Titans finished with a 51-10 (.836) overall record, the second-best winning percentage in program history. Their 51 victories also tied for fourth in Titans history and were the most wins for Cal State Fullerton since 1995 (57).

The Titans return 18 players to the 2014 squad and a freshman class that was ranked as the No. 7 recruiting class by Collegiate Baseball and No. 12 by Baseball America.

The Titans open the season on Feb. 14 against Washington State at Goodwin Field.

Season ticket packages and single-game tickets are currently on sale for the 2014 season.
