Alumni Update – Former Titans in the News

FULLERTON – Three former Titans have made the headlines in recent weeks. Below is an update:

 

Don Sneddon (1975-76): A former Titans assistant coach under the legendary Augie Garrido and longtime head baseball coach at Santa Ana Community College. He is the all-time winningest coach in California community college history with 1,072 career victories.

 

Sneddon stepped down Monday after 32 seasons as head coach at Santa Ana after taking the managerial position with the Modesto Nuts, the California League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. In his time at Santa Ana College, Sneddon coached numerous players who went on to play at Cal State Fullerton including current assistant coach Chad Baum (1998-99).

 

Former Titans Bryan Harris (2006-07) and John Bryant (1983-84) will serve as co-head coaches of Santa Ana for the 2014 season.

Kurt Suzuki (2002-04): A 2004 second-round draft pick of the Oakland Athletics after winning the 2004 College World Series with the Titans.

 

Suzuki signed a one-year contract to play the 2014 season with the Minnesota Twins and was recently confirmed as the Twins' primary catcher for the year. He split time between the Washington Nationals and Oakland A's during the 2013 season. Suzuki has played seven seasons in MLB and has accumulated 748 hits with a .253 career batting average.

Michael Lorenzen (2011-13): The 38th overall selection in the first-round supplemental portion of the 2013 MLB Draft selected by the Cincinnati Reds.

 

Lorenzen was recently added to the list of non-roster invitees to big league camp at Reds Spring Training. Lorenzen, considered one of the team's top organizational prospects, set a new Titans record with 35 career saves.
