Alumni Update – Former Titans in the News

A trio of former Titans have accepted new coaching and operations positions in Major League Baseball during recent months
 

Below is an update:

Mike Harkey (1985-87): The No. 4 overall pick in the 1987 MLB Draft selected by the Chicago Cubs.

Mike Harkey was named the Arizona Diamondbacks pitching coach on Dec. 2 after spending the past six seasons as the bullpen coach with the New Your Yankees. Harkey began his coaching career in 2000 with Class A Rancho Cucamonga in the San Diego Padres' organization.

Shane Turner (1982-85): A 1985 sixth-round draft pick of the New York Yankees after making two College World Series appearances with the Titans (1982 & 84).

Shane Turner was recently promoted to Director of Player Development with the San Francisco Giants. He previously served as the coordinator of minor league instruction for the Giants. Turner spent four seasons as the skipper of the triple-A Fresno Grizzlies (2000-01 and 2005-06) and the double-A Norwich Navigators (2003-04). He has also piloted double-A Shreveport (1999), single-A San Jose (1997-98) and short-season Salem-Keizer (1996), totaling a 598-646 lifetime record in 10 seasons.

 

Tim Wallach (1978-79): A College World Series Champion, selected by the Montreal Expos as the 10th overall pick in the 1979 MLB Draft, 1979 National Player of the Year, 1979 Golden Spike Winner, 1979 All-American:
Tim Wallach was shifted from third base coach to bench coach with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Nov. 11. Wallach had served as the third base coach for three years. Wallach played 17 seasons in the Major Leagues, was a five-time All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove Award-winning third baseman.
