TUCSON, Ariz. – Cal State Fullerton has been ranked No. 23 in Collegiate Baseball's annual Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I preseason baseball poll, it was announced today.
CSF won its 26th conference title in 2012, and made its 34th postseason appearance. The Titans finished the year ranked 21st in the final Baseball America Top-25 poll.
The Titans return a very experienced squad from the 2012 season, including All-American Michael Lorenzen and Big West Freshman of the Year, Matt Chapman. In addition, all-conference first team 2012 selections Richy Pedroza and Carlos Lopez are expected to return to the Titan lineup along with second team pick Anthony Hutting.
Cal State Fullerton assembled a challenging schedule for the 2013 season. The schedule features 26 home games at Goodwin Field and 20 different opponents, including seven programs that advanced to last season's NCAA Division I Baseball tournament, and six teams that are ranked in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll (No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 Oregon, No. 12 San Diego, No. 15 TCU, No. 30 UC Irvine, No. 40 Pepperdine).
In addition, Titan fans will get the opportunity to watch Cal State Fullerton's freshman class, which was ranked the No. 23 recruiting class in the nation, according to Baseball America's annual evaluation.
Highlights of the schedule include Goodwin Field hosting series against 2012 postseason participants, Oregon (Mar. 1-3) and Texas A&M (Mar. 8-10). Nebraska will also travel to Fullerton twice, for a doubleheader on Feb. 16 and back-to-back contests on March 19-20.
