Titans Set to Host Gauchos on Family Fun Day

FULLERTON, Calif. – Titan fans can catch a preview of the 2013 Cal State Fullerton baseball squad on Saturday as the four-time national champions are set to host UC Santa Barbara at Goodwin Field.

First pitch is set for 2 p.m., and admission to Goodwin Field is free of charge as the Titans and Gauchos will scrimmage following Family Fun Day. The scrimmage will be the Titans' third and final fall contest of 2012.

Family Fun Day festivities will begin with a free youth clinic for kids 13-and-under from 9-10:30 a.m.

During the clinic, participants will be instructed by Fullerton coaches and student-athletes on all aspects of the game including hitting, fielding and pitching with stations set up on the main diamond and in the bullpens and batting cages.

If your child is interested in participating in this special event, players need to sign up at www.titanbaseballacademy.com. Participating children should wear baseball attire and bring their hats, cleats and glove for the workout.

Fullerton returns to the field after finishing the 2012 season with a record of 36-21, and ending the season with a 3-0 loss to Austin Peay in the Eugene Regional.

CSF won its 26th conference title in 2012, and made its 34th postseason appearance. The Titans finished the year ranked 21st in the final Baseball America Top-25 poll.

Most recently, the Titans recorded two fall victories at UNLV (7-2; 17-7), and CSF will hold three more intrasquad scrimmages before the final day of fall ball on Friday, Nov. 9. All scrimmages at Goodwin Field are open to the public.

Fans will also be able to get their first look at the Titans' freshman class, which recently garnered top-25 rankings from Baseball America (23) and Collegiate Baseball (17).

Second-year head coach Andrew Checketts' UCSB 2012 recruiting class earned a No. 12 ranking from Baseball America's evaluation as the Gauchos brought in 23 newcomers, including 19 freshmen.

The Gauchos finished 2012 with an overall record of 28-28 while tying for sixth in the Big West standings.
