Men’s XC Takes 19th, Women 22nd at NCAA West Regionals

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — The Cal State Fullerton men's cross country team finished 19th while the women's squad took 22nd Friday morning at the NCAA West Regionals at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Washington. 

Alexis Garcia led the way for the men's team in the 10K contest with a 54th place finish, running a personal-best 29:37.4. Tony Chavez followed with a personal-best 30:43.9 to place 107th and Talman Young also posted a personal-best time of 30:58.2 to finish 122nd. 

Jeremiah Castellano ran a 31:09.3 and finished in 134th place, while Vicente Huerta finished in 141th place with a time of 31:16.2. Andrew Castellon notched a personal-best 31:24.6 and placed 149th, and Nathaniel Avila ran a 31:47.6 to finish 170th and round out the Titans' scoring runners. 

As a team, the men's squad tallied a total of 546th points to finish 19th. Stanford (45), Gonzaga (92) and Washington (105) took the meet's top-three spots. The Titans were The Big West Conference's fourth finishers, behind Cal Poly (198; 8th), UC Santa Barbara (480; 15th) and UC Riverside (508; 17th). 

On the women's side, McKaylie Caesar finished in 48th place to lead the Titans with a time of 20:12.6. Eva Rethmeier followed with a 21:14.1 and finished 119th, while Olivia Ruiz finished 122nd with a time of 21:15.7. 

Laura Velasco (21:24.6) and Kimberly Pena (21:25.1) finished in 141st and 142nd places, respectively. Mia Bergman posted a time of 21:29.4 to take 148th place while Ashlynn Virmontes followed with a 21:29.5 to take 149th and round out the Titans' scoring finishers. 

The women's team garnered 568 points to place 22nd and as the Big West's fifth finisher, behind Cal Poly (342; 11th), UC Irvine (398; 14th), UC Davis (402; 15th) and UC Santa Barbara (449; 17th). Stanford (76), Oregon (96) and Washington (114) placed first, second and third, respectively.
