DAVIS, CALIF. – Titan men successfully defended their title as they were crowned the 2022 Big West Conference Track & Field Champions after accumulating 200 points, the highest point total in school history and second highest in the Big West Conference.
The day started off with the men's 4x100 relay team winning with a season best time of 40.13, followed by Trinity Ruelas winning the women's 1500m final in a time of 4:23.92. In the men's 110H, Senior Charles Kelly was able to defend his title with a winning time of 14.07 (+2.0). Kelly came back less than 2 hours later to win the men's 400H and became the first Titan and school history to win the 110H and 400H in back-to-back seasons. Teammate Matt Cohen finished fourth overall in the men's 110H with a time of 14.51 and took second in the 400H with a time of 52.60.
Justin Lowe won the men's 400m dash with a time of 47.00, after entering the race with the fastest time out of prelims. He came back less than an hour later to finish second in the men's 200m dash.
For the first time in school history, the Titans sweep the men's 100m dash with Cooper Bibbs leading the way with a time of 10.27a. Freshman Alonzo Floriolli took second with a time of 10.29a and Nathyn Scruggs rounded out the third place slot with a time of 10.38a. Bibbs became the fourth Titan in the last six years to win the 100m dash.
Maya Occiano successfully defended her title in the women's 400H after becoming the only athlete in the field to run sub-sixty. Occiano also became the first Titan to win back to back titles in a hurdle event for the women since Lauren Williams won the 100H four years straight from 2008 thru 2011.
After occupying 50% of lanes for the men's 200m final, the Titans were able to score 21 points behind the effort of Justin Lowe (2nd), Alonzo Floriolli (3rd), Naythn Scruggs (5th), and Cooper Bibbs (6th).
In the field events, Daniel Palacio jumped a new lifetime best 5.16m in the men's pole vault to finish second overall and move up to number two on the Titans All-Time list behind Giovanni Lanaro, who was inducted into the Class of 2021 Hall of Fame. Teammate Ernesto Collazo finished third after clearing 5.01m. Sela Pastrana finished fourth in the women's triple jump after a leap of 12.25m. Teammate London Lee finished sixth overall after a leap of 11.99m. Christian Wood earned himself another podium finish on the weekend after taking second in the men's triple with a new lifetime best leap of 15.05m.
McKaylie Caesar earned herself another podium finish after taking third in the women's 5k with a time of 16:48.17. On the men's side, Alexis Garcia kicked his way into a third-place finish with a time of 14:31.63. Wrapping up the final day of events was the women's 4x400 relay team who finished fifth overall and the men's 4x400m relay team defending their title after crossing the line with a time 3:11.92.
The Big West Conference Championship recap show is set to air on May 25th on ESPN+. The Titans will be back in action May 26th thru May 28th as they move on to the NCAA West Preliminaries held in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Cal State Fullerton has built a top-tier production studio to give the viewers an ESPN quality production for all games at Titan Gym which will also lead into baseball and softball games.
