Five Titans Make Podium on Day One

DAVIS, CALIF. – McKaylie Caesar wrapped up day one of the Big West Conference Championships by finishing second in the women's 10k after finishing with a time of 35:29.12. Alexis Garcia found his way on the podium after finishing third in the men's 10k with a time of 30:55.42. Garcia's time ranks number four on the Titans All-Time list.

In the first running event of the day, Eva Rethmeier finished fourth in the women's 3000m Steeple Chase with a time of 10:50.14. Talman Young finished fourth as well in the men's steeple chase after running a new lifetime best of 9:11.33. Young's time moved him up to number four on the Titans All-Time list.

In the first section of the women's 1500m, Trinity Ruelas, Dana McGrath, and Stefana Purkovic all qualified for tomorrow's final. On the men's side, Jacob Smith (3:51.90) and Vicente Huerta (3:53.44) secure spots in tomorrows 1500m final.

Matt Cohen, Charles Kelly, and Andrew Aguilar all qualified for both the men's 110H and the 400m. Cohen ran the fastest 400H time out of the prelims to earn an automatic qualifying bid for the finals tomorrow. Mariah Stewart and Amira Hawkins will both move on to tomorrows 100H final after both finishing with a time of 14.37.

In the Men's long jump, the Titans were able to place two athletes on the podium. Christian Wood finished second after a jump of 7.35m and Camren Willis jumped a new lifetime best of 7.32m to finish third. Over in the men's high jump, Shallamar Poole finished second after clearing 2.06m (6'9").

Justin Lowe set the stage in the men's 400m dash after running the fastest automatic qualifying time of 46.93 to advance into tomorrow's final. Parris Samaniego and Chris Shiley secured spots in the final after running 48.10 and 48.40. Lowe also qualified for the men's 200m final after running 21.27, which was the second fastest time of the day behind teammate Cooper Bibbs.

Alonzo Floriolli, Cooper Bibbs, and Naythn Scruggs run the three fastest times of the day to all qualify for tomorrow's final. These Titans will all join Justin Lowe in the 200m final as well, as the Titans will occupy four out of the eight lanes in the final.

Maya Occiano earned her spot in the women's 400H final after cruising through the finish line first with a time of 1:01.60.

The Titans continue their chase for another championship tomorrow, as the 2022 Big West Track & Field Conference Championships continue at UC Davis. The field events will begin at 9:00AM PST and track events beginning at 1:00PM PST.
