FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton Athletics Department is mourning the passing of longtime Titan supporter and donor Cliff Doubek.
"I am so grateful to have known Cliff," said Cal State Fullerton Athletic Director Jim Donovan. "His commitment to Titan Athletics and the Cal State Fullerton community will be felt by our student-athletes, coaches and supporters for years to come. I especially appreciated his intellect, wit and sense of humor -- as we exchanged emails over the past few years. Cliff clearly loved our student-athletes and coaches. Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Mary and all of Cliff's family and his many friends."
Doubek and his wife Mary have been longtime supporters of Titan Athletics, making a generous gift to the department every year since 1980. Cliff and Mary donated the funds for the construction of the baseball and softball offices and locker room in 2000, and their generosity was acknowledged with the naming rights to the Doubek VIP room at Goodwin Field.
The room continues to be a focal point for the athletics department as it is used for recruiting visits with potential student-athletes, game day hospitality, NCAA Tournament announcements and additional functions throughout the year.
In 35 years of Titan support, Cliff had volunteered in a variety of ways including serving on head coaching search committees, the Titan Athletic Club Board of Directors, and the Athletic Director’s Advisory Council.
