AUGIE GARRIDO

Augie Garrido was the architect of the Titan baseball program that continues to be among the nation's best. While at Cal State Fullerton, Augie's teams compiled a remarkable 875-341-5 record. During his two stints with the Titans he won three national championships, made seven College World Series appearances and 16 conference championships including an amazing 11 in a row (1974-84). Four times he won national coach of the year honors.
Between his tenures at Cal State Fullerton he also led Illinois to two NCAA appearances. After leaving Cal State Fullerton, Augie has spent the past nine seasons as the head coach at the University of Texas . During these years he has become the all-time winningest baseball coach in NCAA history. He has led the Longhorns to two national championships, the first in 2002 and the last in 2005. He was also named national coach of the year in each of these seasons, giving him six such awards overall. He has also been named regional coach of the year in seven different seasons.
As a student-athlete at Fresno State, Augie was named all-conference and his Bulldog team advanced to the College World Series in 1959. After college he signed with the Cleveland Indians and played six minor league seasons before embarking on his long-time baseball coaching career. He has coached a total of 37 years at the intercollegiate level and only USC's Rod Dedeaux has won more national championships. Garrido's overall record is 1,542-717-8, an average of 41 wins per season. He has also served as an assistant coach with Team USA in 1990. Augie resides in Austin, and has a daughter, Lisa.
